Join Grovedale Little Aths
Running, jumping, throwing and plenty of fun, for kids aged 5 to 17. Whether your child is chasing records or just loves to move, there's a place for them at Grovedale. Here's how to get started.
-
Summer track and field runs on Saturday mornings from October to March at John Landy Field, 230 Swanston Street, South Geelong, with a break over Christmas. In winter, cross country runs from April to August at venues around Geelong.

-
Kids in Under 8s and up try five different events each week, a mix of running, jumping and throwing (Under 8s do four). Under 6s and 7s start with On Track, a 1½-hour program of games that teaches the basics in a fun, no-pressure way.
-
Absolutely. New athletes get up to two free weeks of summer competition. Register for a trial online, then come and say hi at the Grovedale desk before 8:15am. https://events.mygameday.app/event/2627geelongtrialathleteoffer

Our yellow, black and white Grovedale top with plain black shorts or briefs (no coloured or logos). You can grab new or second-hand gear at the Grovedale desk on competition days.
-
Little Athletics isn't a drop-off sport, so a parent or carer needs to stay for the morning. The upside is you get a front-row seat!
-
Yes, and it's easier than you think. The club runs entirely on volunteers, so every family does at least three duties a season. Each event has an experienced chief who'll show you the ropes.
-
Yes! Optional club training helps athletes build skills and confidence. Training is Monday 5-6pm at Deakin Athletics Track

-
We follow Little Athletics Victoria's policies on child safety, disability, cultural diversity and inclusion. You can read them on the LAVic website. Committee member Anthony Kilsby is our Child Safety officer if you have any questions.
-
The fun doesn't have to stop! Grovedale has partnered with Deakin Athletics to create a clear pathway into senior athletics. Athletes can register with Athletics Victoria from Under 12, so they can start competing at senior level while still enjoying Little Aths.
Our juniors also get a taste of senior athletics early. Deakin's senior athletes help out at our Monday night training, sharing their experience and mentoring the next generation of Tigers.
Got questions about making the move? Grovedale's club president, Christian Romanelli, is also President of Deakin Athletics. He's happy to chat with any family about the transition. Contact him through grovedalelittleaths@outlook.com.
